This full-day journey is informative and scenic, combining
medieval architecture and culinary pleasures. From
Udine the tour heads towards San Daniele through the
road of Castles and Ham (Strada dei Castelli e del
Prosciutto).
Driving northwards we come rapidly in view of the
hilly area, dotted with prehistoric strongholds,
impressive castles, towers and remains
of fortifications dating back to Roman times
or to the early Middle Ages. Our route will take us
to the majestic the Castle of Villalta, one
of the most evocative and best preserved, and the
Castle of Arcano before reaching the town of
San Daniele, where we'll pause for lunch in
a typical restaurant to enjoy the delicate taste of
the worldwide famous prosciutto, accompanied by fine
local wines. A visit to a prosciutto factory is also
possible.
In the afternoon, following scenic roads through ever-enchanting
countryside, we continue our tour towards the Castle
of Colloredo di Montalbano, which partly belonged
to Ippolito Nievo's family.
Our day draws to a close with a drive along the Colli
Orientali wineland, visiting a local winery with enchanting
