Come and discover with us the Middle-European city
of Trieste and the beautiful Miramare castle!
Trieste's setting is particularly beautiful, combining
the shining whiteness of its wild rocks, the blue
sea and the green hills that surround it. We'll approach
the town along its coast road, which appears perfectly
inserted in the surrounding territory and offers a
breathtaking view that stretches as far as the Istrian
Coast.
Trieste has a rich historical and cultural background,
in particular during the 17th and 19th centuries as
port and trading center of vital importance for the
economy of the Hapsburg empire. As we stroll around,
you can see that history and images of the past are
still living through all the ruins, monuments, streets
and buildings scattered around the town.
To discover the roots of Trieste, we'll reach its
historical heart, the Capitol Hill, site of ancient
Roman Ruins, which include the theatre, the forum
and an Augustan Triumphal Arch. We'll then admire
the Castle and the Cathedral of San
Giusto, a pleasant old town, an elegant seafront
with exquisite palaces of remarkable architectural
value, many being Neo-Classical, and Italy's
largest square overlooking the sea, Piazza Unità
d'Italia. These are the highlights of our morning
in Trieste, along with a brief stop at one of Trieste's
historic cafes, which used to be cultural, ethnical
and political meeting points in the late 19th and
early 20th centuries.
For our leisurely lunch we'll stop in a typical restaurant
offering local wines and dishes of a gastronomic tradition
that reflects Trieste's role as a crossroads of different
peoples and cultures.
The afternoon will be spent visiting the Miramare
Castle, the romantic residence of Maximilian from
Hapsburg and Charlotte from Belgium, and its wonderful
park. Enshrined in the coastal rocks, it gives
visitors the chance to admire the most enchanting
sunsets!.
